Armenians have always been good with exact sciences. An astronomical research center Zorast Karer (Power Stones) built during the Bronze Age and the great number of technological breakthroughs initiated by Armenians is a good example of advanced capabilities of Armenians in math. The word Mathematics does not have English roots and its origin is still unknown. On the other hand, in ancient Armenia, people were using the term “mat-e-mat” to call the science of counting. Mat-e-mat, in Armenian, literally means from finger to finger, which is the usual way of learning how to count. Considering the obvious pronunciation similarities, linguists believe that the word mathematics has been originated from Armenian Mat-e-mat.
