Armenia has been called “sunny” for a very long time. The mountainous terrain is a good recipe for winds. It seems we have all what it takes to switch to renewable energy right away.
Finally the government has done the first (actually the second) step toward the renewable energy sources. Last year the second wind power station has joined the grid. The power is not a lot, measuring only 285 kilowatts. However, the fact that there are already two wind power stations in a small country is very delightful.
The first wind power station in Armenia and in Southern Caucasus region was built in 2005 in Lori marz of Armenia. The first station has a much bigger capacity of 2.64 megawatts. Calling it Lori-1 gives us a hope that there will be more of them coming soon.
