Armenia has several notable names in circus industry, the most vivid of them being Leonid Yengibaryan. His art is impressive even by today’s standards. Many of his tricks were firsts not only in the former USSR but the whole world.
However, the Circus Building was not so fortunate. Initially it was constructed in 1930s from wood. Later in 1939 Nikoghayos Butanyan constructed a new building for 800 spectators. Once again the building was completely renovated in 1962 by Vagharshak Belubekian, who decreased the audience size to 700.
Ever since the building was not renovated. The urgent need for a new and modern building was evident. After several changes in the initial drawings, the officials say that the new building will have 2500 seats and will be completed in October of 2017.
